yesterday was a nightmare

Yesterday was Sunday. Supposed to be a day of rest. Not for this unlucky gal. We just got the Kia back out of the shop for the transmission on Tuesday. So yesterday was the first day we took it on the highway. After getting gas, and airing up the tires, we headed off for Temple. As we are on our way there, we start to hear this whining noise. No big deal we thought. Just the car getting adjusted to new parts since this is the first time taking it at high speeds.

We get to Temple and go to Sam's Club. Got what we needed and headed towards home. Almost home (about 5-8 miles) it starts to jerk, and then as we are trying to pull into a gas station, the transmission locks up and we are going nowhere. Oh yeah, did I also mention that we are blocking the left hand lane of the opposing traffic.

So we're stuck, this car ain't moving anywhere. A nice gentleman stops and tries to help push it out of the way. No good. So another nice lady stops by, and offers to let us use her truck to pull it out of the way. The idea was great, but as she was pulling, and the car not moving, the chain snapped. However, whatever caused the transmission to lock up was knocked loose (we think), so we are able to push it out of the way.

Call AAA. They are actually helpful this time around in getting someone out there ASAP. So its me, Dean, and my friend Darcy. The car is loaded on the tow truck, but can only take 2 people besides the truck driver. Dean tells me and Darcy to go with the car back to the house, and pick up Darcy's car (which happened to be there thank goodness). He would wait at the gas station. Okay, no big deal. We'll be back in like 20 minutes.

Halfway home, the tow truck has problems. *sigh* So we end up sitting on the side of the road waiting for another tow truck to come pick up the car. Turns out that the truck's gear of some sort was not attached right so was partially in use (without the driver's knowledge) and was causing smoke to rise from the front part of the truck. So finally the other tow truck comes and we get on our merry little way.

Finally get home, and just as we are about to leave Crystal calls my cell. Turns out Dean called her because he was worried, and she in turn called me (cause my cell long distance from a pay phone). So we get on the road and go pick up Dean.

So Dean is waiting for the car place to open up so he can rip someone a new asshole. He's also going to demand that the guy fix it right plus pay for us to use a rental car, since the transmission isn't even a week old (its got a 6 month warranty on it) and we have no other car (Dean's died on Saturday night).
